This is the final oil sketch for the mural painted in 1887 in the Risorgimento Room of Palazzo Pubblico in Siena, showing the meeting held at a farmhouse in Vignale on 26 March 1849 between the Austrian Marshall Radetzky and Victor Emanuel II to negotiate an armistice after the defeat of the Piedmontese army at Novara.
